One thing I recognize about this blog is that I am in the habit of posting very superficial commentary on, essentially, a bunch of unrelated YouTube videos. I need to do better. Let me think through how I might approach creating a more substantive contribution to the internet.
I don’t know why this video features an image of Charlie Patton, but there you go. The person who uploaded this video says he was first introduced to Son House’s music through a Charlie Patton compilation, but it’s still a funny choice of image.
The guitar playing on this tune is incredibly complex and polyrhythmic while maintaining a very simple aesthetic. On top of that is House’s incredibly powerful voice – it’s one of those voices like Howlin’ Wolf’s that probably overwhelmed audiences, demanding their attention.
This story reminds me of Al Franken’s book Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them. Comey was straightforward in calling out Pres. Trump’s character as one who is prone to lying. This is a problem with politicians in general, but Pres. Trump is particularly brazen in the lies he tells. He is likely to go down as one of our worst Presidents, up there with Richard Nixon and Andrew Johnson.
Again, I am testing out how to embed teaching materials in blog posts. I’m not sure yet if a blog is the best way to present these materials, but I’ll try it out.
I am testing out how to embed my PowerPoint presentations online. I hope this works.
